Roshan's Dancing Style

Holy safari suit! Sam's Tailor - venerable providers of bespoke clothes for local taipans, United States presidents and royalty everywhere - is getting jiggy down in clubland.

The hugely successful Glide & Swerve dance collective (including DJ Russell, below) has taken up the tailor as its official ''patron saint of the wardrobe''. And when The Backroom, Raimondo Chiodi's long-anticipated bar and lounge, makes its debut on Arbuthnot Road on Friday night, its super-chic waiters and barkeeps will also be decked out in designs created and supplied by Sam's.

Behind the make-over is Roshan Melwani - the 1.9-metre-tall grandson of Sam's Tailor founder Naraindas Melwani. Roshan's father Manu and uncle Sham have let him harness the company's 55 tailors and their awesome collection of fabrics for this project. ''We've been making stage costumes for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Jamiroquai and Blondie for years,'' Roshan told SAR at The Edge Club, at 3.30am on Saturday, while DJs in his look-at-me outfits rocked the crowd. ''So we decided, 'why not extend this service to local people?'''

Sam's Travels

Sam travels to North America and Europe every year to meet old and new clients. These trips are never very long - there is a tailor's shop in Hong Kong calling for attention - but Sam would be delighted to try to fit you in to his schedule.
